Please start saving your food waste for compost.
The best method for collecting compost is to find a large bucket with a lid (a perfect excuse to eat 4 litters of ice cream). For use in the garden we only want fruit, vegetables, coffee and tea waste (no meat or bones as they smell and attract even more animals to our garden). If you don’t have a bucket you could keep scraps in a bag in your fridge or freezer to avoid the problems of flies in the apartment. Collect the waste until you have a chance to walk down to the garden. You will see a row of compost piles constructed with shipping pallets. Always dump waste in the pile on the far left. We really need kitchen scraps in the first few months of the season as the weeds and grass we otherwise cut down to compost will not be long enough until June. I am also working on getting the university to deliver some food scraps from the restaurants on campus, but they have not confirmed this yet.
