Well, as I told Maria yesterday, she has already brought a record level of dedication to Maloca. I don’t think the garden has ever had a workday during a snowstorm! I would love to show you pictures so you all would believe that we were there, but we were too busy working to stop and besides it was snowing so hard that the picture would have probably been just a bunch of white dots/streaks. Regardless, she and Sabrina and I took care of the very important items remaining to close out the garden. Most importantly, I was able to unfreeze the frozen tap on our tank and drain most of the water. The bottom should still have water (but below the tap) to stabilize the tank for winter. While I struggled mightily with ice-breaking, Maria and Sabrina started cleaning out and organizing the shed. THere’s still a bit to do on that front, but things are looking better now. There will be lots of stuff to do in the spring and stay tuned here and on the listserv for events during the winter. Stay in touch!

I checked the tank yesterday and today Eric…seems to be okay. Water level is below tap and is now frozen. If it warms up a bit and hoses have a chance to thaw – prolly a good idea to put them in shed.
Might be an idea to insulate (and dissuade someone from possibly moving the tank) if we were to pile some of those leaf bags around the tank.
Any thoughts?
I can do this if agreed by all, as I am out there everyday now because I have my dogs.
THANKS, Mary Beth! THat’s agreat idea, and I say go for it, and if the boss disagrees, then she can get us out to move them back. thanks again, e.
Welcome Eric,
I will be out again today (Saturday) around 4:00ish and will proceed to make tank cozy for winter. If anyone is available to help – that would be appreciated.
My dogs are friendly but my male barks – he’s all talk so not to worry anyone.
Okay done – mini igloo base around tank to above water line. Should help to make a barrier to prevent cracking of plastic/tap when temps fluctuate suddenly. This may or not work but it’s worth a try.
Thank you so much Mary Beth, sorry that I have been out of commission for a while but thank you for taking that initiative towards moving the leaf bags.
Interesting post, thank you! I always like to read and write about all kind of gardening ideas.
